Shanghai, the most fashionable first-tier city in China, is moving towards the acquisition of the title of world-class “Fashion Capital”. The Shanghai International Design Festival (SIDF) began with a grand opening on November 23rd, 2022. Invited by the festival committee, IFA Paris Shanghai Campus unveiled a selection of Bachelor Fashion Design & Technology students’ designs during the opening of SIDF.

Founded in 2002, in partnership with Shanghai University of Engineering Science (SUES), IFA Paris Shanghai campus is the first Sino-French joint venture in fashion education approved by the Chinese government. Over the past two decades, Bachelor Fashion Design graduation collections from IFA Paris Shanghai Campus have been featured during Shanghai Fashion Week, Shanghai Haute Couture Week, and the Fashion Summit, just to name a few. IFA Paris’ participation in the opening show of “Shanghai International Design Festival” is an active response to the mission of the committee to build “Shanghai Local Brands” and aim for “Sustainable Development”.

Since its establishment, IFA Paris has been adhering to its original intention, encouraging creativity, environmental responsibility, and local entrepreneurship, transforming the often-criticized label “Made in China” into “Designed by China”. In addition to the systematic teaching of authentic French Fashion Design and advanced approach to haute couture, IFA Paris attaches special importance to sustainability. Over the years, International Fashion Academy has been involved in various sustainability projects in the field of fashion, in particular with the creation of its Bachelor Fashion Sustainability.
In order to present innovative ideas and materials related to sustainable fashion, as well as the talent of local Shanghai designers, IFA Paris Shanghai campus teachers have selected 42 creations from extraordinary alumni and industrial projects for this fashion show.

Of particular interest is that the fur collection presented at the opening show is the result of a collaborative project between IFA Paris and Ecopel carried out in 2021. The faux fur collection is a promising initiative on how to achieve a balance between beauty and sustainability and create sustainable and ecological fashion.
The SIDF was also an opportunity to highlight the teaching philosophy of IFA Paris on its Shanghai campus. The Bachelor of Fashion Design & Technology, IFA Paris’ flagship program, is taught by French teachers with innovative teaching methods combining French tradition with the latest technologies. With a constantly evolving pedagogical content in line with the latest developments in the industry, students quickly master all the basic skills of design and production.
Through final year fashion shows, cooperation with brands, peer-to-peer exchanges, environmental protection projects, IFA Paris offers students a wide range of learning opportunities to work in the fashion industry. Graduates are thus well prepared to fully meet the demands of today’s fashion industry from the very beginning of their careers.
