Influencer Chloé Vancaeyzeele: Life as a Fashion Student

Posted on 03/02/2025

Chloé Vancaeyzeele, aka @qdvchlo on Instagram, explores a different profession every three months to understand its inner workings and share her experience with her community. As part of her exploration of the seamstress profession, she spent two days at IFA Paris to discover our Bachelor Fashion Design program and immerse herself in an environment dedicated to creation.

A Unique Immersion into the World of Sewing

On her social media platforms (Instagram and TikTok), Chloé explores various professions, gaining firsthand experience and sharing her journey with her followers. This month, her focus was on sewing and fashion. After teaching herself through YouTube tutorials, Chloé wanted to experience a more structured and professional approach by spending two busy days at our school.

Her schedule included pattern making, sewing, and fashion design classes, during which she had the opportunity to experience our teaching methods and draw inspiration from the unique creations of our students. Chloé shares her impressions of this immersion, the key takeaways from her experience, and her advice for those considering a career in fashion.

Interview with Chloé Vancaeyzeele: Her Experience at IFA Paris

Q: Can you tell us about your journey? Why did you decide to explore a new profession every three months?

A: I studied business but I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do afterwards. I started with photography, which made me want to explore other professions. That’s when I came up with the idea of picking a new profession from a jar every three months and I’ve found it incredibly enriching ever since. When it came to sewing, I started learning on my own with youtube tutorials, but I wanted to see what a more structured, academic approach would be like.

Q: What was your first impression when you arrived here?

A: First of all, I found the campus stunning. And when it came to the classes, I really liked the interactive approach. Students aren’t just sitting behind a computer, it’s very hands-on and focused on real-life application.

Q: Which classes did you attend, and what did you think of them?

A: I attended pattern making, sewing, and fashion design classes. Pattern making particularly fascinated me. It requires a lot of precision, whereas when I was learning on my own, my approach was much more instinctive. This level of rigor is really interesting, and I also loved how each student works on their own project. It makes learning highly personalized.

Q: How did you find the professors and the overall atmosphere at the school?

A: The atmosphere felt very relaxed, but what stood out the most was the trust given to students. The instructors provide technical guidance while allowing each student to maintain their individuality and personal style, which is essential for creative growth.

Q: What did you learn about the profession of a seamstress through this experience?

A: I realized just how different it is to create something for yourself versus constructing a garment in a professional setting. Here, the courses are designed to prepare students for the industry : teaching precision, processes, and even how to present projects professionally. It’s truly a comprehensive training program for a career in fashion.

Q: Any advice for someone hesitant about pursuing a career in fashion?

A: I think you should follow your passion. School is an incredible opportunity to learn and grow, but what you make of it is just as important. It’s a chance to build expertise in something you genuinely love, so if you feel drawn to it, go for it!
