Inside Tzuri Gueta's Studio: How IFA Paris Students Experience Material Innovation
Posted on 31/03/2026
Understanding materials means understanding fashion. Through a visit to the studio of designer Tzuri Gueta, the students from Kent State University, currently on exchange at IFA Paris, discovered how textile innovation can open new creative perspectives, blending craftsmanship, experimentation, and contemporary design.
Located at the heart of the Viaduc des Arts, an iconic venue for craftsmanship in Paris, Tzuri Gueta's studio has been exploring for several years the possibilities of a surprising material: silicone. Used in his creations of jewelry, accessories, textiles, and even design objects, this material becomes a field of experimentation that pushes the traditional boundaries of fashion.
Exploring Material and Pushing the Boundaries of Creation
Tzuri Gueta's work stands out due to his experimental approach where materials become a storytelling tool. With his expertise in silicone, he creates unique pieces that explore new textures and unconventional shapes. Silicone allows him to imitate the appearance of leather, wood, and even create hybrid textures.
Far from being limited to one application, this material offers great freedom for experimentation: fashion accessories, sculptural jewelry, technical textiles, or decorative objects.
The visit to the workshop allowed students to observe the creative process up close, from material research to the final creation. Through technical demonstrations, discussions on working methods, and discovering pieces developed for Haute Couture houses, this encounter highlighted the importance of research in the creative industries.
This ability to transform materials opens a particularly rich field of exploration for fashion students, who discover new ways of approaching textile design.
“It was really amazing to get to see all of the different textiles that he works with. I really liked one where he was connecting the French lace with lace from Ireland.” explains one student.
Understanding Material and Contemporary Fashion
Today, material innovation plays a central role in the evolution of fashion. Whether it’s sustainable development, smart textiles, or new manufacturing techniques, knowledge of materials is a key lever for imagining the creations of tomorrow.
For students in styling as well as those aiming for fashion marketing or management, understanding the issues related to materials helps them better grasp the sector's evolutions: new consumer expectations, product innovation, and the hybridization of fashion and design.
This visit is part of a pedagogical approach that aims to connect students to the Parisian creative ecosystem, giving them access to professionals whose work is helping to redefine the contours of contemporary creation. Observing, experimenting, understanding: fashion training is not limited to technical learning; it also involves developing a solid visual and material culture — and knowing how to read the signals that are reshaping the industry.
What Tzuri Gueta's studio makes tangible — the idea that materials are becoming a creative and strategic language in their own right — is part of a much broader transformation underway across the industry. We explored the key signals of this shift in our analysis of Fashion Trends 2026: Deep Tech, Circularity, Emotions.
