IFA Paris Selected to Participate in the Aqua Art Miami Exhibition

Posted on 27/10/2023

IFA Paris is pleased to announce its participation in the Aqua Art Miami 2023 event during Miami Art Week, in collaboration with the Australian artist Jase King.

In 2022, the school had already produced a fashion show at the renowned contemporary art fair called "Itinérance." This presentation was built on the idea that fashion is a vehicle for freedom.

For this year's participation, IFA Paris and Jase King have selected looks and masks with the aim of provoking a dialogue on the concept of identity. Identity is commonly defined as someone's permanent and fundamental character, which makes their individuality and uniqueness. The simplicity of this definition is disconcerting because, as a species, we are constantly asked to "identify" ourselves through the concepts of gender, culture, religion, or nationality. By trying to determine who we are, we consciously put ourselves into metaphorical boxes... What if identity couldn't be defined? What if it could only be expressed? No constraints, no boundaries, no labels. Only a pure state of self that can be externalized through two powerful vehicles: art and fashion.

"Deconstructing Identity" has been chosen as the main theme of this year's show. Illustrated through a series of 36 designs by IFA Paris students, paired with as many masks created by Jase King, "Deconstructing Identity" will unfold in three acts:

First Show: Scheduled for December 7, this part will highlight the resilience of the human being in the face of adversity. Second Show: Scheduled for December 8, this chapter is dedicated to emphasizing the importance of diversity and the erasure of borders. Third Show: Scheduled for December 9, this final part will symbolize the dismantling of systemic barriers and discrimination.

About Jase King: Jase King, an artist influenced by Western and Far Eastern cultures, explores social issues through art. He has focused on creating masks, inspired by the Covid-19 pandemic and the concept of identity. Each mask is connected to an aspect of the artist, reflecting his inner struggles.

IFA Paris has a strong artistic vision of fashion, which is why participating in events of this scale in the art world is dear to us. It is an exceptional opportunity to showcase the creations of our students, alongside Jase King, to an international audience made up of figures in both the fashion and art industries.
