Fashion Workshop: IFA Paris Unveils Digital Sketching Basics

Posted on 16/06/2025

Expert advice and a deep dive into digital tools: this unique online workshop, led by fashion illustrator Bilal Diab and hosted by IFA Paris Istanbul, introduced participants to the fundamentals of digital fashion sketching. Designed to be accessible and interactive, it gave aspiring designers the confidence to take their first steps in digital illustration.

A First Look into Digital Sketching

Open to beginners, the online workshop “Fashion Forward: Beginner’s Guide to Digital Fashion Sketching” brought together participants eager to explore the basics of fashion illustration using digital tools. Over the course of an hour, Bilal Diab, illustrator and lecturer at IFA Paris, guided attendees through a step-by-step approach, combining technical tips, live demonstrations, and personal insights.

With his clear and approachable teaching style, Bilal made digital sketching feel accessible to everyone, even complete beginners. He also shared his own creative journey, inspiring participants to pursue their artistic practice with greater confidence.

The goal of the webinar was simple: to remove the barriers to digital creativity. Whether it was their very first sketch or their first time using illustration software, attendees left feeling more at ease, motivated, and empowered to keep creating.

A Live Exploration of Tools and Techniques

The webinar covered several key aspects of digital illustration:

  • The most useful design software (Adobe Illustrator, Procreate, CorelDRAW, Krita, Inkscape)
  • Recommended hardware for beginners, such as graphic tablets and styluses
  • The fundamentals of fashion sketching: body proportions, expressive lines, and silhouette development

This overview was followed by a live drawing session, where participants were invited to follow along and create their own digital fashion sketches step by step.

The session ended with an open Q&A, encouraging the exchange of ideas and building a sense of creative community among attendees.

This online event is part of a wider series hosted by IFA Paris, exploring digital fashion, emerging technologies, and creative innovation.
