The Fashion Studio Short Course offered by IFA Paris provides the basic skills to become a fashion designer: from the drawing of the main idea to the creation of the garment and selection of the right fabric. The Ecuador-born creator and fashion designer Natasha Fonte, founder of Be You, a Latin brand with European influences, completed this short course and gives us her thoughts.
The Fashion Studio Short Course for fashion design of IFA Paris is a complete and comprehensive 256 hour program regrouping 3 themes: Fashion Design, Draping and Pattern Making and Textiles. Upon completion of this course, students gain the essential skills necessary to develop a basic mini collection. Coming from Quito, Ecuador, Natasha Fonte knew how valuable it would be to fly to Paris and join us!
“I decided to join the Fashion Studio short course of IFA Paris this summer as I wanted to develop my fashion design know-how outside of my country, explains Natasha Fonte. I knew Paris was the best place to go with their rich fashion history and heritage. I did a lot of research beforehand and found this program. It’s a really complete course! It teaches the basics: from the beginning until the end of how to create a mini collection.”
In fact, the modules taught are structured around each step composing the creation of a range of outfits, from inception to realization. The part-time courses at IFA Paris have been constructed on a unique modular planning in order to allow participants to customize their learning experience by electing 3 options: Modular Learning (students can select specific modules ranging from 16 to 24 hours in order to address precise needs related to their current or future career paths), Thematic Learning (students can choose between 3 courses with themes focusing on Foundation of Fashion Design, Textiles Technology and Draping and Pattern Making Foundation), and Comprehensive Course Learning (students have the possibility to combine the 3 thematic within one comprehensive course titled "Fashion Studio."
“I was specifically interested in the pattern-making and draping technique, tells Natasha Fonte. The course was great and really intense and I would have loved for it to go longer to further intensify my knowledge. Our instructor, Marie, was amazing and I could tell her style and technique was one of the best I’ve seen. She is very precise and a perfectionist, which is important in fashion design!”
Natasha Fonte says that she learned as much as she could absorb in the 8 weeks and the final result is a beautiful two piece collection with a romantic classy touch.
“My experience at IFA Paris was one of the best in my life so far. My classmates were from all over the world as well and really nice! My goals from now on are to expand my brand Be You and apply the knowledge and techniques I learned into my patterns and collections!”
Be You recently opened a sales point in Switzerland. “The brand attracts more and more Ecuadorian celebrities, models and people searching for a different, glam and sexy style at once”. It launched online sales and started to develop its social medias accounts on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook with more than 30,000 followers until now!
