Based in Shanghai, the English jeans brand Lee Cooper and Fashion and Luxury management school IFA Paris began a six-month collaboration on the design of clothing and their marketing in November 2015.
Alex Zhou, Senior Designer of the British denim manufacturer Lee Cooper, known for its jeans brand recognizable by their buttons, rivets, pockets and handmade leather labels, is enjoying the moment. So are the four students in Bachelor Fashion Design of the fashion school IFA Paris who participated in this unique experience for six months. The project was initiated between the English brand and Career and Alumni Center of IFA Paris led by Adile Cretallaz, with the support of Zhang Bo, responsible for academic projects at IFA Paris: elaborate in real time, under the artistic direction of Alex Zhou, senior designer at Lee Cooper, in real life settings, with real deadlines toward the market: the development of a Lee Cooper collection Autumn/Winter 2016.
Selected among twenty five candidates, the four students, Anna Myslyva, Yoyo You, Lemon Zhang and Cao Diang, successfully rose to the challenge. For weeks of following the teachings and guidance of Alex Zhou, closely studying Lee Cooper’s style, the four students went through intense and complex creative phases, drawing sketches and technical drawings. “We achieved the realization of 8 samples, 4 outerwear and 4 pants, that represent my team’s ideas and concepts”, says Alex Zhou.
Alex Zhou then unveiled to the four students the selected samples that have been corrected and improved. A small production began. The students were then invited to the Lee Cooper factory in Hangzhou, before being trained in the art of presentation. Indeed, on March 3rd, they had to present their designs in front of Lee Cooper’s marketing team. Following this strategic meeting, Lee Cooper took order of a trouser and a coat designed by Lemon Zhang. “I tried to teach them and share with them everything I could in a limited time, explains Alex Zhou. They are smart and passionate students. I bet they’ll still learn from new experiences and will go far!” Meanwhile, the pants and the coat will be launched in stores with the Fall/Winter 2016’s collection, in a trunk that looks like a treasure chest. With the presentation of students and the logo IFA Paris printed on the clothing tag of the two garments!
