IFA MBA students went to visit the « Fashion as Art » Exhibition that was held on the 240 East Beijing Road of Shanghai, a place famous for its heritage architecture and long history.
The office building visited by the IFA students is today an office block shared by several creative companies. The exhibition was actually taking place in the corridor of this building.
SuperChina and Magda Danysz Gallery are presenting Fashion as Art, an art and fashion showcase of drawings, photography and sculptures. Frédérique Mory’s collection of drawings and sketches by some of the greatest fashion designers of the 20th century, including works by Gianfranco Ferre, Kenzo Takada, Pierre Cardin, Hubert Barrere, Thierry Mugler and Emanuel Ungaro (published in Bloc-Mode, Editions de La Martinière, 2008). Photographs by renowned photographers Liu Bolin and Erwin Olaf are exhibited, giving their interpretations of Haute Couture. Sculptures by Wang Keping and drawings by Julien Serve will also be displayed to celebrate the female forms.
This exhibition invites us to take a rare and exclusive behind-the-scene look at the artists’ creative process. It is also a journey through the depths and the blurred boundaries between Fashion and Art ; the first strokes of a sketch are the underlying foundations in the creation of both Haute Couture and Fine Art pieces. Through the light and feathery strokes of each designer, a fantasied physiological reality of stream-like silhouettes takes shape and the soul of a new collection is revealed before our eyes.
As an interesting episode of this field trip, the students were deeply attracted by working environment of these creative companies. At the same time, as one of the organizers, Superpress, a French PR agency just would like to cooperate with IFA to recruit some internship from us. It would be exciting experience for the students.
