Have you ever dreamed of studying fashion design? IFA Paris’ Bachelors of Design and Technology Program, offered in Shanghai and Paris, teaches a comprehensive framework of sartorial innovation, balancing design technique with business and marketing in its three-year diploma program. Our Paris location boasts a rich history of couture and textiles, home to longstanding fashion and luxury labels, as well as the ChambreSyndicale; and our school in Shanghai, the world’s fastest growing fashion and luxury market, has quickly pioneered the vibrantworld of design and manufacturing. To prepare design students for this competitive and changing industry, IFA Paris hires a strictly professional team. Current faculty members have worked for the likes of Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Maison Martin Margiela, Christian Lacroix,Kenzo and Armani among others.
The first two years inthe Bachelors program provides a theoretical framework of garment construction, including a focus on core courses in fashion design, Pattern Making and Draping, Fashion Marketing, Computer Design, and Textiles Technology. First year students build a solid foundation in design practices, producing one women’s wear collection, and three mini collections. By the end of first year, students know how to create skirts, dresses and shirts.
Our second academic year helps undergraduates apply the skills acquired from first year principles, expanding on existing knowledge. A focus on Fashion Marketing provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the industry, enabling them to think critically about their creations, not only in terms of garment construction, but also in terms of price point and branding, and an understanding of fashion cycles. Second year students will complete four major design projects over the year, including fabric transformation, one men’s wear collection, one Children’s wear collection and one3D design. Our second year also teaches students to hone their design technique through draping classes that focus on volume and shape, working directly on mannequins.
Finally, the third year at IFA Paris allows Bachelor students to apply a critical foundation of design and technology byrealizing a final collectionfrom concept to garment. Core courses in the third academic year include Fashion Design and Computer Design, Marketing, and Pattern Making and Draping, with specialized courses in knitwear, sportswear and creative printing. The third year enables Bachelor students to unify their creative skills with the technical studies from their first two formative years, giving them more freedom to practice design holistically.
Upon graduation, students will present their final collections, geared towards IFA Paris’ unique annual theme, to an esteemed jury panel and prestigious media and industry VIP. Those individuals showing collections will automatically compete for Postgraduate scholarships, which allow winners to continue their studies between our separate schools in Paris and Shanghai.Previous winners, such as 2011’s winner Elias Moussa, have gone on to studyin Florence and Shanghai after graduating from our school in Paris. IFA Paris also offers scholarships to our unique Undergraduate program, which you can read more about here.
In addition to annual scholarships, IFA Paris’ placement office offers students guided support in finding internship and work placements and, as the program runs from September to June, our undergraduates have time to complete them during the summer months.
IFA Paris encourages both international applicants and transfer students into our Bachelors in Fashion Design and Technology program.
