Invited to close the Homme & Preview Tranoï fashion fair on Monday 25th January as part of IFA Paris’ collaboration with this important fair for creative brands, IFA Paris (International Fashion Academy) showcased a selection of the best 2016 Master of Arts Contemporary Fashion Design graduate collections at Cité de la Mode et du Design.
Featuring Womenswear, Menswear and mixed collections, a wide range of styles and inspirations whilst at the same time displaying a fairly realistic approach to garments, this show reflects and accentuates the new directions followed by the fashion world and that can be observed during the current Menswear and Haute Couture Fashion Weeks.
Thus Chen Xi Lu combines Paris & Shanghai in a mixed collection with oversize volumes that strongly look towards the future. Astika Suprapto breaks down and reconstructs the basics of casual wear to create silhouettes that can also be worn back-to-front as well as the other way round. Yali Chen dresses her male models in a Zen Streetwear suffused by details inspired by Tibetan culture. The elegant women silhouettes designed by Adjoa des Bordes Philipps find their origin in the deconstruction of the timeless white shirt, while Moa Zhang defines a new masculine look (« allure ») by mixing Workwear, Active Sportswear and elements of Buddhist temples.
The show was completed by the recent collections of two former IFA Paris graduates whose brands have been met with growing interest by the fashion industry. Ria Keburia, who has established herself as the phenomenon of the Moscow Fashion Week for the last six seasons, questions gender boundaries through sport with a colorful mixed collection inspired by Olympic Games and Soviet pictures from the 70’s. Karen Topacio, winner of the 2015 E-fashion award, offers delicate and poetic sulptures made of silk organza and satin, but developed with a new 3D software of her own making.
Beyond a performance packed with energy and enjoyed by an audience of fashion professionals, Tranoï buyers and fashion editors, this firmly contemporary show is an open window on what fashion creativity has in store for the future.
We wish our new graduates the same success in their future career as the one they have experienced with this show!
